FIELD TRIP: SOPHOMORES LEARN TO TREAT WATER AND MAKE IT USEABLEOn October 17, the sophomores traveled to the Waste Water Treatment Plant in Grand Rapids and the Water Filtration Plant in Grand Haven and enjoyed a pizza picnic in spite of the rainy weather. This trip is another step in the process of preparing the sophomores to build their own water filter. At the Waste Water Treatment Plant we looked at the process of removing the solids, settling the waste, adding oxygen to the waste water, using bacteria to clean the water, and ultra violet light to prepare the waste water to be released into the river. Then we traveled to the Water Filtration Plant in Grand Haven and looked at the process of making Lake Michigan water clean enough to drink. Now all we need to do is to plan and build a water filter to clean some pretty dirty water from a pond near Mrs. Kingsbury’s back yard. xpose students to exciting science. |
