Job Shadow Experience

This year we have a wonderful opportunity available to our sophomore students, job shadowing experiences. A job shadow experience is an opportunity for the student to attend a company planning meeting and a tour of the facilities. The job shadowing experience will help the student accomplish the following:

  • Gain information about possible future career interests
  • Observe an actual planning meeting
  • Observe engineers or scientists at work
  • Gain an insight of the academic, technical, and personal skills required by a particular occupation
  • Gain information to assist the student with goal setting and educational planning

Each student will attend one to two job shadowing experiences depending on their interest in either biomedical or engineering fields of study. If a student is undecided at the time, he or she will attend two job shadowing experiences, one in the biomedical and engineering area.

GRAPCEP’s job shadow experience consists of an orientation to job shadowing. This includes the benefits of attending a job shadowing experience and what to expect before, during, and after the job shadowing experience. Each student is required to complete company research and write a letter to a particular job shadowing company explaining why he or she would like to attend a job shadow experience at that company. After the job shadowing experience, all students are required to complete a reflection paper and write a thank you letter to the company representative where they attended the job shadowing experience.
